Nature reigns supreme here. On the one hand the coast with spectacular bays and caves, golden beaches and crystal clear sea, on the other hand the woods and forests of the Gargano National Park, with a thousand-year-old heart, the Foresta Umbra, to be covered by bike, on horseback or on foot. On the coast between Peschici and Vieste, unique wooden devices are suspended on the water: they are the trabucchi, ancient fishing systems, today restaurants on the sea. On the horizon the Tremiti Islands, 5 square kilometers of wonders and multicolored backdrops for unforgettable dives. From the green San Domino to San Nicola up to Pianosa, Integral Marine Reserve.
The Gargano is a reference point for those who want to immerse themselves in a lush nature, with Mediterranean maquis, white rocks and stretches of sea colors hovering between the turquoise and emerald. The Gargano is called the Spur of Italy, not surprisingly: in fact, if Italy remembers a bit of a boot, this corner of the territory can only immediately bring to mind a spur, with its protruding position. From the orographic point of view, the Gargano represents a promontory of Apulia, whose extension reaches about seventy kilometers, dominating the Adriatic Sea. The massif, in its southern part, is even more embellished from a naturalistic point of view by the Gulf of Manfredonia, while this area of almost 2000 square kilometers is bordered inland by the territory of the Tavoliere delle Puglie. What makes this territory even more precious is the presence of protected areas, which contributes to a satisfactory preservation of this delicate territory. In a place so rich in inspiration and beauty, the presence of religious phenomena of a certain extent can't surprise and find their climax in places such as San Giovanni Rotondo, where the famous Saint Pio di Pietralcina lived. A land of faith, crossed for centuries by the Via Sacra Longobardorum, crossed by the Crusaders to get to the Holy Land, from this strip of land stretched out towards the Mediterranean from the fifth century after Christ, the cult of Saint Michael spread throughout Christian Europe and in fact, in addition to the pretty town that dominates the Gargano, Monte Sant'Angelo, one of the sacred places of Christianity for the apparitions of Saint Michael, about ten kilometers from the Mycaelic center, there is also the Abbey of Pulsano, also ancient sanctuary of the end of the sixth century.

Manfredonia is located on the edge of the Tavoliere, on the largest gulf of the central-southern Adriatic. It is the port and maritime city par excellence of the province of Foggia. The name of the city derives from Manfredi, king of Sicily, natural son of Federico II, who founded it in the mid-13th century to transfer the inhabitants of the nearby Sipontum, destroyed by Saracen incursions and an earthquake. Manfredi built the castle in 1256 which was restored in the sixteenth century. In its present form, it houses the National Museum of the Gargano.
The town of Peschici stands on a cliff in a splendid position overlooking the sea. A Gargano destination quite appreciated, it still retains the influence of its Moorish origin, a memory of Arab domination and incursions, with caves carved into the rock and ancient white houses with domed roofs.
Vieste is the easternmost city of the entire Gargano Promontory, in an isolated position in relation to the other Gargano centers, a reason why in the past it got the name "La Sperduta". Despite this isolation, thanks to easy-to-access routes, the town has developed considerably over the past few decades, enhancing tourism and becoming a favorite destination for tourists on holiday in the Gargano.
From a naturalistic point of view, the Forest is dominated by beech, with lush vegetation in the undergrowth. The dense presence of the trees and their particular height make the lower part of the wood very dark and shady; feature that explains the name.
It is the highest in the Gargano (843 m) and is situated in a wonderful panoramic position on a spur south of the promontory, with a breathtaking view open to the west on the Tavoliere and to the south on the Gulf of Manfredonia. Seat of the Gargano National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the life of the town is concentrated around the Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo, built between the 5th and 6th centuries when, according to tradition, the apparitions of the archangel took place in a cave. The Lombards, who dominated southern Italy at that time, made it their national sanctuary. In a short time it became a center renowned throughout Christianity and a must, not only for pilgrims from all over Europe, but also for the Crusaders leaving for Jerusalem.
Immersed in the greenery of the Gargano National Park and resting on the hills next to Mount Calvo, the town of San Giovanni is set in the middle of a beautiful natural environment. San Giovanni Rotondo is famous in the world for being the resting place of the remains of San Pio da Pietrelcina, a Capuchin friar who lived there for about 50 years.
Established on the hill of Pulsano in the sixth century by the monk-pope St Gregory the Great, the Abbey Santa Maria di Pulsano, with its surrounding hermitages, has been until today, with alternating historical events, place of monks, anchorites and cenobites, Orientals and Latins.
